Přednádraží Evictions Resistance - Ostrava, Czech Republic

What is Přednádraží?

Přednádraží is a street in Ostrava,Czech Republic, where predominantly Roma residents have been resisting forced evictions since August 2012.

The City Hall issued an order to the owner to evict all the residents (approx. 400 people), giving as a reason broken sewage lines and unsafe condition of the buildings. The City of Ostrava is refusing to repair the sewage lines.

As of January 2013, approximately 50 people remain at Přednádraží, working on repairs to one of the buildings. The rest of the buildings have been subject to looting that has been ignored,
and sometimes even encouraged by the police.
